Top 10 Ways How to Combat Hangover

If you drink alcohol, chances are you’re going to wake up and face suffering through a hangover from time to time. As for handling a hangover, there are a lot of conflicting ideas out there about what works and what doesn’t. That greasy meal you’re craving from bed might not be the best option for a speedy recovery, but here are the top 10 ways hot to combat hangover. I am sure you will love the post. So, let us not waste any more time and start!

10. Take Multivitamins

If you are too tired of the hangover the consider taking multivitamins. It is true that too much drinking has depleted nutrients in the body, including vitamin B12 and folate. So this is time for you to try popping in a multivitamin to replenish what’s lost from a night’s drinking.

9. Sip Ginger Tea

Chances are there that your hangover will accompany acidity and can upset the stomach. In order to set that tummy, you should sip ginger tea. Make sure it has not much sugar added. So, brew a warm mug of strong ginger tea before you get developed food poisoning.

8. Eggs

Eggs are a powerhouse to stand up to a hangover for a couple different reasons. For one thing their well-balanced protein ratio can help get you going and reduce some of those more mysterious hangover cravings. But what really makes eggs unique is the cysteine they contain. When your body is processing alcohol out of the body, the liver runs out of chemicals to break down the chemicals, so those painful toxins called acetaldehyde linger unless something comes along to break them up. Cysteine is the magic bullet as it has the same function of those chemicals you’re missing from the liver, and will help to flush out the toxins faster than you could do on your own.

7. Honey

Honey is high in fructose, which can help speed up your body’s metabolism of alcohol, which gets it out of your body faster. Try spreading some on a piece of whole grain toast for a solid (and delicious) hangover breakfast choice, or just eat a spoonful and wash it down with a full glass of water.
6. Pickle Juice

When you wake up craving salt after a night out even when you’re dramatically thirsty as well, that’s because your electrolytes have been diminished and your body is screaming out that it could use a replenishing. A sports drink can help out, but strangely pickle juice might be an even better option. Pickle juice is full of salty electrolytes, minerals, and vinegar. Vinegar can help reduce heartburn, assists in the absorption of nutrients while you eat, and may be able to help stabilize the blood sugar.

5. Bananas

When you drink too much you diminish the levels of potassium in the body, which can make you feel tired and nauseous. Eating a banana is one of the most efficient ways to get your stores back up and hopefully get you back on your feet. Bananas also contain tryptophan that converts to serotonin and boosts the mood, reduces swelling, helps remove toxins from the body, calm the digestive system (or jumpstart it, ahem), and control your blood sugar. Bananas also help with the production of white blood cells, which might be able to help you prevent getting a cold after a wild weekend.

4. Asparagus

This is a great way to let you know hot to combat hangover. Researchers aren’t entirely sure why this vegetable can reduce the lethargy, nausea and headaches from a hangover, but it can! If eating a bunch of veggies doesn’t sound like the most appealing thing in your morning fog try chopping it up into an omelet with those amazing eggs. It’s benefits are probably due to some mixture of its minerals, amino acids and vitamins.

3. Dark Chocolate

Chocolate can give a burst of sugar that’s helpful in hangover recovery, but it can also help you get back nerve impulses that can be deadened from over doing it on the shots. Just keep it minimal and as dark and unprocessed as possible to avoid causing more problems. The cacao in its natural state is the part that has the health benefits, not the added sugar, butter, and milk that make it taste so good.

2. Oats

A warm bowl of oatmeal to recover will do than just make you feel satiated, oats can actually absorb toxins in the body, even out the acid levels, and are packed with B vitamins, magnesium, calcium, and iron, all of which can help replenish your energy levels.
1. Soda Water

Like eggs, soda water (and it’s sugar filled alternative Sprite) can help to break down the toxin acetaldehyde. Drinking soda water is generally a little more exciting than tap water alone, so it also might encourage you to drink up and get hydrated a little quicker. If it’s still not doing it for you, try adding a little bit of lemon or a drop of a sports drink to give it a bite of flavor.

5 Ways to Beat the Heat This Summer

Whether this summer ends up being a true scorcher or one with even an average amount of heat, there will inevitably be at least a handful of days when the temperature will scale oppressively uncomfortable and perhaps even dangerous levels.

In advance of those sweltering days, it is always worthwhile to review fundamental tips for staying cool and healthy in that environment, as well as to dispel certain myths about heat and heat safety.
The Red Cross offers these tips for staying safe on hot summer days:
  • Dress for the heat. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing. Light colors will reflect away some of the sun’s energy. Wear hats or to use an umbrella.
  • Drink water. Carry water or juice with you and drink continuously even if you are not thirsty. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which dehydrate the body. Avoid using salt tablets unless directed to do so by a physician.
  • Eat small meals and eat more often. Avoid high-protein foods, which increase metabolic heat.
  • Slow down. Avoid strenuous activity. If you must do strenuous activity, do it during the coolest part of the day, either before 7 a.m. or in the evening.
  • Stay indoors when possible. If air conditioning is not available, stay on the lowest floor out of the sunshine.  Remember that electric fans simply circulate the air, rather than cool the air.
An hour before going out into the heat, doctors advise that you should drink fluids and apply sunscreen. The sunscreen needs time to adhere and attach to the pores. If you apply the sunscreen after you’ve started sweating, it doesn’t adhere.
Even if you are going to spend most of the time indoors–even in air conditioning–drinking more fluids than usual on hot days is still essential. Air conditioning is a dehumidifier. It sucks out the moisture in the air and creates a dry, desert environment inside, so you still need to drink more, even if the temperature is more temperate inside than it is outdoors.
And, while drinking water is certainly more advisable than drinking diuretics like caffeine or especially alcohol, water alone may not be sufficient. Water itself without the other electrolytes you need can create an imbalance, which is why rehydration formulas like sports drinks are also helpful for hydration on hot days.
Particular caution should be exercised when the temperature reaches 90, and folks should also keep track of the heat index, a reading that factors in the relative humidity. Heat indices might surpass the dangerous 100-degree level even if the actual air temperature is lower than that.  So when the mercury starts to rise, stay out of the sun and hydrate properly!

Amazing Facts About Heart Health and Heart Disease

From the size of the heart to the timing of heart attacks, here are five facts about the human heart everyone should know.

You can feel your heart thudding away every time you put your hand to your chest, but do you have any idea what’s really going on in there or what keeps your heart ticking as it should? WebMD the Magazine asked Richard Krasuski, MD, director of Adult Congenital Heart Disease Services and a staff cardiologist at the Cleveland Clinic, to help explain some amazing and little-known facts about the human heart.

1. How the human heart functions

Every day, your heart beats about 100,000 times, sending 2,000 gallons of blood surging through your body. Although it’s no bigger than your fist, your heart has the mighty job of keeping blood flowing through the 60,000 miles of blood vessels that feed your organs and tissues. Any damage to the heart or its valves can reduce that pumping power, forcing the heart to work harder just to keep up with the body’s demand for blood.

So how do you make sure your heart is in tip-top shape? "Keeping your body in good health helps keep the heart a more efficient organ," Krasuski advises. In other words, eat healthy, well-balanced meals and don’t skimp on the exercise.

2. Male heart attack symptoms, female heart attack symptoms

When it comes to matters of the heart, men and women definitely aren’t created equal. For instance, a man’s heart weighs about 10 ounces, while a woman’s heart weighs approximately 8 ounces.

Not only is a woman’s heart smaller than a man’s, but the signs that it’s in trouble are a lot less obvious. When women have a heart attack -- and more than a half million do each year -- they’re more likely to have nausea, indigestion, and shoulder aches rather than the hallmark chest pain.

Heart disease is the biggest killer of both men and women. And both genders should heed this healthy advice: Don’t smoke, keep your blood pressure and cholesterol levels in check, and watch for the obvious and the more subtle warning signs your heart could be in trouble.

3. Laughter: The good heart medicine

Health experts now have proof that laughter is good medicine.

A good belly laugh can send 20% more blood flowing through your entire body. One study found that when people watched a funny movie, their blood flow increased. That’s why laughter might just be the perfect antidote to stress.

When you laugh, the lining of your blood vessel walls relaxes and expands, Krasuski says. So have a good giggle. Your heart will thank you.

4. Stress and the Monday morning heart attack

You’re more likely to have a heart attack on Monday morning than at any other time of the week.

Healthy Diet

What is a Healthy Diet?

The opinions of doctors and nutritional experts vary widely, leading to a huge amount of conflicting data and statistics. In frustration most people give up trying to diet, or lean toward one of the ‘official’ low fat, high carbohydrate diets.

For some basic guidelines it is wise to listen to and observe what other people or populations have done in the past. There are several that exist in which the population in general reaches a ripe old age, at the same time maintaining a record of good health both physically and mentally.

The Hunza people are such an example. They live in the Kashmir valley in Pakistan and are known for their extreme longevity, living up to between 120 and 140 years of age. The main causes of death are old age, disease or poverty, and not degenerative diseases as is the case in the West.

The traditional Hunza diet consists of unprocessed whole foods which are rich in fibre: 40% calories from whole grains, 30% calories from vegetables, 15% from fruits, 10% from beans, 4% nuts and seeds and only 1% from animal products. The Hunza people eat 80% of their vegetables and 100% of their fruit raw. A combination of their low-fat diet and the fact that they are very active, a result of living in the rugged mountains, means that the Hunzakuts are not obese.

And ... they are happy! They have a certain relish and passion for life - perhaps brought on to some extent by their daily rigorous exercise and simple lifestyle.

What can we learn from the Hunzakuts? Three things:
• eat raw fruit and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds
• exercise daily
• have a positive outlook on life

In our hectic lives it sometimes pays to give the body a rest and to follow a cleansing diet for a couple of weeks. The simple guidelines below will help you to feel the difference.
