Why the Apple iPhone 6 bends.

You may have already listened that the iphone 6 and 6 plus will bend if put under too much pressure. There are some mechanical reasons behind this. Some of them I researched are following:

1 • The iPhones 6 is made out of precisely machined aluminum. It's a metal, yes, but metals such as aluminum generally possess the quality of ductility — they are pliable, not brittle. Aluminum is actually a fairly soft metal, ranking at 2.5-to-3 on the Mohs scale of hardness.

2 • The iPhone 6 is 5.44 inches tall while the iPhone 6 Plus is 6.22 inches. That's a lot of area to spread out force along, especially if the phone ends up sideways in your pocket. It's pushing up against your leg, which contains a hard-as-concrete femur bone that's up to 2 inches thick. If your pants are tight enough around your leg, that iPhone will bend. It's a thin piece of metal, that's how it deals with forces beyond the failure threshold — it fails.

3 • Smaller phones can adjust by sliding in your pockets while you sit or stand up but iphone 6 can't, due to its size.
