Reasons your period is delayed

Many factors can affect your menstrual cycle. While it may be nice to get a break from it, the irregularity can also be unnerving. Here are the reasons your periodcan be late

1. Too much stress
Stress is one reason your period may be delayed. We all have a very hectic lifestyle and stress causes a havoc on our body and affects our hormones. Yes, there are times when stress is unavoidable, but try and find ways to relax and de-stress. Make time for yourself and do what makes you happy.

2. Change in schedule
Even something as simple as a change in schedule can be a reason your period is late.If you recently switched from working days to working nights, your period is likely to gofor a toss as your body is trying to adapt to the change in schedule. Hormones can be quite sensitive.

3. You exercise a lot
Amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) in athletes is called exercise-associ ated amenorrhea. In athletes, intense training and quick weight loss can affect period. If you suddenly start exercising and working out, you tend to miss your period. Exercise affects the menstrual cycle by elevating themetabolism. Metabolism is responsible for essentially sustaining chemical reactions in the body like menstruation.

4. Birth Control pills
Birth control can also affect woman's menstrual flow. Many women use birth control pills to control their period, either to regulate when their period happens, have a lighter period or preventing a period from occurring every month. But if you haven't taken birth control pills to delay your period, check for its side effects. If you are still not sure if your birth control is the reason your period is delayed ask your doctor.

5. You're pregnant
Delayed or missed period is one of the main signs that you are pregnant. If you are trying to get pregnant or are an adult in a stable and committed relationship then being pregnant isn't a bad thing. However, if you are young, single, or not ready for a baby, then being pregnant is something youshould get worried about. One way to deal with this is get a pregnancy tester home and take a test yourself. If the test is not clear, you can also consult a doctor for the same. Expert guidance always works best.

Meet the ladybug mimic spider.

Meet the ladybug mimic spider. Ladybugs
are bright red with black spots. This
intense coloration is a warning to
predators that they don't taste very nice.
This is known as aposematic (“warning”)
coloration. There are plenty of examples of
this is nature - monarch butterflies, bees,
wasps and skunks all have aposematic
coloration. Their colors act as a genuine
warning to predators to steer clear.
Once a species has evolved aposematic
coloring, there is an opportunity for other
species to take advantage by mimicking it.
These species evolve the colors, but don't
bother to produce the expensive poisons
and toxins. This is called Batesian
mimicry.
This particular spider mimics the ladybug
and gets all the benefits of the warning
colors - but doesn't need to bother
producing the horrible tasting alkaloids that the ladybug has.

Do you know why Green colour is so commonly used in hospitals?

Green is the complementary colour of red. Itgoes well with medical accessories and doesn't shout for attention. Green, which provides a high-contrast environment, reduces eye fatigue and make bright red blood splashes less conspicuous. Also,we canfind green colour as neutral even if we observe in spectrum.(Earli er the colour usedwas white...the combination of bright operating lights and an all-white environment led to eyestrain for the surgeon and staff. By the 1950s and 1960s, most hospitals had abandoned white and apparels were selected in favor of various shades of green).

Goliath Tigerfish

Grows like goliath, hunts like a tiger and swims like a fish. The Goliath Tigerfish lurks the waters of the Congo River system and several other lakes in southern Africa.

This fish is remarkably adept at swimming and killing due in part to an air-filled sac in its body that allows it to detect vibrations from animals in the water. Those razorsharp spikes in its mouth may also help the cause.

Hats off to this police woman

While painting a church in 2008, Dallas’ head came into contact with a high-tension electrical line.

While painting a church in 2008, Dallas’ head came into contact with a high-tension electrical line. He was immediately airlifted to Parkland Hospital, received in emergency, and admitted to the Burn Critical Care Unit. At that point, the doctors told the Wiens family that Dallas would not survive. Through his faith and tenacity, Dallas set out to prove them wrong.

As a result of the accident, Dallas was left without any facial features. The electrical line completely burned away his visage and left him with gaping wounds on his body and spinal cord injuries at the C-3, C-4, and C-5 vertebrae. After dozens of surgeries, the surgeons had reconstructed Dallas’ body to the point that they felt comfortable bringing him out of the medically induced coma that he had been in for three months. As soon as he came to, Dallas began the arduous road to recovery.

Spurred on by the desire to hold his two-year-old daughter Scarlette again, he learned to speak without the use of lips or teeth, threw aside his wheel chair despite being told he would not walk again, and opted for pushups and workouts in his hospital room during his free time instead of resting. Three months later, Dallas was out of the hospital and well on his way to returning to life before the accident. However, he was not satisfied.

After his plastic surgeon, Dr Jeff Janis, presented the life saving surgical procedure to his colleagues in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, he was introduced to the possibility of a full facial transplant. This rare and risky procedure had not yet been attempted in the United States. After tireless hours of research, hospital visits, testing and qualifying, he was placed on a waiting list for this groundbreaking procedure to be performed by Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston .

As Dallas anxiously awaited the phone call that a donor had been found, he began seeking out ways to shine his light of hope into the lives of other tragedy survivors. It was to that end that The About Face organization was founded. Dallas set about the road to recovery while spreading his story to as many lives as he could. Then, on a day like any other, he got the call.

A team of 30 surgeons and hospital staff, led by Dr. Bohdan Pomahač, performed the almost 17-hour surgery, making history for the medical community. Thanks to their tireless effort, Dallas would be able to feel the kisses of his daughter once again.

The transplant surgery was a complete success and Dallas has been regaining facial muscular control and sensation every day. He can not only feel his daughter’s kisses, but he can feel the cool breeze on his skin and smell food and flowers; sensations that most of us take for granted.

Dallas now works tirelessly to be the best father and mentor he can be while showing others the possibility of accomplishing their dreams despite their circumstance.
